Tyabb is a small township located on the Mornington Peninsula, about 53 km southeast of Melbourne's central business district. It is part of the shire of Mornington Peninsula and recorded a population of 3,449 people in the 2021 census. Tyabb is known for its semi-rural locality and its proximity to Western Port. The town has a unique history, with its name derived from the Boonwurrung word "jouap." It was a well-known fruit growing area in the early 20th century and was identified by the "TYCOS" brand. Today, Tyabb retains its rural character while experiencing rapid residential development. It has three primary schools, two high schools, and a Country Fire Authority station. Tyabb is famous for its antique shops, with the Tyabb Packing House Antique complex being the largest in the southern hemisphere. The town also boasts Tyabb Airport, an important part of the local economy and home to a collection of antique and warbird aircraft, as well as a flying school. Although Tyabb does not have a pub, it has several amenities and services, including a bakery, pharmacy, cafes, and a motel. The town is also serviced by the Tyabb railway station on the Stony Point railway line, providing easy access to Melbourne's city center.
