Port Melbourne is an inner-city suburb located 3 km southwest of Melbourne's central business district. It is situated within the Cities of Melbourne and Port Phillip local government areas. The suburb covers a large area that includes the distinct localities of Fishermans Bend, Garden City, and Beacon Cove. Historically known as Sandridge, Port Melbourne developed as the city's second port. Over the past three decades, the formerly industrial suburb has undergone intense urban renewal, resulting in a diverse and historic area. It features industrial and port areas along the Yarra River, as well as open parklands, bayside beaches, exclusive apartments, and the popular Bay Street's restaurants and cafes.
