Mernda, located 26 km northeast of Melbourne's central business district, is a growing suburb within the City of Whittlesea. Its population at the 2021 census was recorded as 23,369. The suburb has a rich history, with European settlers establishing the first structure, The Bridge Inn, in 1841. Over the years, the town expanded and went through several name changes before settling on Mernda in 1913, meaning "young girl" in the local language of Wurundjeri. Today, Mernda is a suburban area with multiple new housing subdivisions, including Mernda Villages, Settlers Hill, and Woodland Waters. The Mernda Line provides convenient public transport, connecting the suburb to Melbourne CBD.
