Harkness is a suburb located 38 km (24 mi) northwest of Melbourne's Central Business District within the City of Melton local government area. According to the 2021 census, Harkness has a population of 12,463 people with a median age of 30. The suburb was officially gazetted on 9th February 2017, following a proposal by the City of Melton to create eleven new suburbs. In terms of education, Harkness is home to Arnolds Creek Primary School, which opened in 2014, and Arnolds Creek Kindergarten, located adjacent to the primary school. There are also several early learning centres in the area, including Melton Early Learning Centre and Melton Montessori. For recreation, Harkness offers plenty of open spaces and facilities. Arnolds Creek Reserve, located behind Arnolds Creek Primary School, is home to the Melton Central Football Club. There is also a playground and basketball and tennis courts adjacent to the school. Nearby Navan Park and Navan Park Lake offer walking paths, exercise equipment, electric BBQs, and a playground.
